Yanqi Lake International Conference Centre is located on the bank of Yanqi Lake in Huairou District, covering a total area of 31 km². The core island includes an international conference center, a boutique hotel, 12 VIP villas, and other facilities.

As the venue for the 2014 APEC meeting, Yanqi Lake International Conference Centre passed its first high‑profile test, gathering heads of state from around the world to experience its pervasive Chinese characteristics. For the international conference centre, however, APEC was only the beginning. After the meeting, it has become a high‑end leisure resort in Beijing featuring natural ecology.

To meet the diverse needs of high‑end conferences and leisure vacations, the lighting design strives to strike a balance between the two functions while aligning with the concept of an ecological demonstration zone. As the core island of Yanqi Lake is required to host large international events such as APEC, its nighttime lighting must achieve a high‑profile, high‑quality visual identity. In contrast, lighting in the leisure resort areas emphasizes visual appreciation and the rhythmic composition of light and shadow patterns.

As the core building on the island, the conference center embodies the design concept of “A Wild Goose Spreading Its Wings, Han and Tang Dynasties Soaring.” To fully reveal and enhance the building’s soaring momentum at night, the lighting brightness gradually increases from the center to the two wings, reaching the highest level at the top, perfectly outlining its outstretched silhouette. Lower brightness is used for the stone base of the building, creating strong contrast between solid and void. The overall lighting not only clearly defines the outline but also strengthens its three‑dimensional form, further expressing the idea of “A Wild Goose Spreading Its Wings, Han and Tang Dynasties Soaring” after dark.

The lighting of the boutique villas adopts a low color temperature and low illumination design. It focuses on highlighting the entrance landscape, using a rational combination of accent lighting, general lighting, and decorative lighting matched to the landscape form. By contrasting light and dark, brightness and shadow, the three‑dimensional quality is enhanced, presenting the entire landscape space elegantly and creating a refined, distinctive nighttime scene. The lighting design is people‑oriented, prioritizing user experience and avoiding glare interference.

As night falls, lights on the core island turn on; as darkness deepens, the illumination grows increasingly distinct. “The wild goose spreads its wings” across the black sky, and “the Han and Tang spirits soar” right before your eyes. The breathtaking splendor at this moment is beyond words; only by being there in person can one truly appreciate the magic of light.
